FOSTERING MARCEL

A few years ago I was a young pup, very cute and sweet, and full of lots of energy. Life in my eyes was fun, fun, fun! The original family who bought me and brought me home soon learned that puppies are a lot of work. Bewildered, they gave me no direction or real training other than frustration. Eventually, they surrendered me to a rescue group. After that my life changed...

Unfortunately many puppies and dogs, as well as other animals, find themselves in similar situations. There are many, many reasons that we end up abandoned, lost, or abused. Approximately 6.5 million of us end up in shelters or rescue groups. The lucky ones get good homes. I am one of those…

THE BOND BETWEEN HUMAN AND ANIMAL

2019 Next Generation Indie Book Award - Finalist

Just because you fall in love with a cat or a kitten, doesn’t mean that the rest of the family shares your enthusiasm. There are ways to introduce your new friend into the household. Mom did a good job introducing Marcel into his new environment.

My second book, Fostering Marcel … the bond between human and animal, is about the orange tabby cat that Mom instantly fell in love with and adopted. At first I thought it a good idea to bring home this small bundle of purring charm, but when I realized that Mom had to spend time playing with him and taking care of him, I was jealous. Afterall, it was my house and my family!

How does this get resolved or does it?

Discover the answers as you share in our journey.

In the relationship that develops between human and animal, I asked Mom: What is this bond? What makes it so profound?

Mom’s further questions and reflections explore the powerful connection between human and animal. It invites many insights for both her and the reader regarding the gift of nature that nurtures us all.

John Hunt, DVM writes in his Foreward, “Josie’s observations of the bond that developed between Vernita and Marcel are touching and humorous. Vernita’s techniques in training, pet care, and solving problems are subtle but effective. Pet owners can learn a lot from this story…”

In his endorsement, Don Carrigan, author of Togus: A Coon Cat Finds a Home,” writes: “I had a lot of fun reading Fostering Marcel. As a dedicated cat and dog owner, I recognized our own household in the relationship between Marcel and Josie. When cat and dog teamed up for their outdoor walks, it brought a smile to my face and reminded me of a cat named George, who would walk the field with our dog Tripper.

These animals become such an integral part of our lives and our families that it seems impossible to think of home without them. Thanks for sharing this tale of friendship and love.”
